HI I am Nick (Nicholas) And I am going to show you how I make a circle basket.
It is enjoyable and you can make it in about an hour! Lets start....
Here we start with our base wooden piece that has holes all around.
Sand it so that it is smooth.
Here are the reeds in water that we will use to put through the holes in our base.
Count your holes to see how many you need.
Here we are sanding our wood and counting our reeds.
Now you are going to pull your reeds through each hole around like this.
Make sure they are all even when you are finished.
Then you will bend them. Going behind each one as you go around.
That is it! you are now ready to choose your color for the basket!
I picked yellow because that is my favorite color!
after you pick your color you do want to soak it in the water for a
couple of miutes then take it out. You will then loop your piece to meet making two pieces.
with the top piece being the fold..that is where you place that over one reed and you are ready to start weaving it around taking turns with each piece over and under as you go around.
Here is what it looks like when you weave through a whole piece of twine.
Now you want to put the top part of the basket into the water to soften the
reeds.
Now you are going to do just what you did in the very beginging to the top.
here Mrs. Debbie Cates is helping me. She is a great teacher!
Now look at your basket are their any hairs sticking out? If so
you can torch it to burn off the hairs. Mrs Debbie Cates is
doing that for us. You have to do it when your basket is damp and before
you stain it.
Here it is my completed first basket! I did it!
Now all that was left was to sign my name!
I decided to put #1 on it. As I make more I will number them on how many
I have made.
You can stain your basket if you want or leave it as it is.
Please sign our guest book to tell me what you think of my basket.
Thank you for taking the time to encourage me in learning. Nick
